
Lee McGuire
Chief Communications Officer

Lee McGuire is the chief communications officer at the Ó³»´«Ã½ of MIT and Harvard and serves on the executive leadership team.
The Office of Communications aims to raise the profile and familiarity of the Ó³»´«Ã½, steward the institute’s reputation, and inform and connect members of the Ó³»´«Ã½ community. The office supports science writing, media relations, events, web presence and maintenance, social media, visual communications, scientific data visualization, internal communications, and video production.
McGuire also leads Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s Office of Government Relations. This office helps build relationships between Ó³»´«Ã½ and public agencies and officials to inform public policy and extend Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s mission of scientific public service.
Since 2020, McGuire has served as chair of the board for the Kendall Square Association. He is a founding member of Out@Ó³»´«Ã½, the Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s internal affinity group for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies.
Before joining the Ó³»´«Ã½ in 2015, McGuire served on the superintendent’s executive leadership team as chief communications officer for the Boston Public Schools. He is a reporter by training and spent twelve years covering government and health care policy for radio and television stations across the country, including in Boise, Austin, and Houston.
McGuire earned a B.A. in politics from Princeton University and a M.A. in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
