Melanie O’Leary, M.S.
Principal Genomics Specialist, Operations Lead
Melanie O’Leary is principal clinical genomics specialist and the operations lead for the at the Ó³»´«Ã½ of MIT and Harvard under the direction of Heidi Rehm. This whole genome-based research study aims to identify the genetic causes of diseases for undiagnosed families.
O’Leary oversees the overall project operations, including the patient engagement, enrollment, sample acquisition, results return, and regulatory aspects of the project, and supports the director in strategic planning.
Prior to joining the Ó³»´«Ã½ in September 2017, O’Leary worked at Courtagen Life Sciences Inc. as a laboratory genetic counselor and as the clinical bioinformatics liaison. She has previous experience as the program manager for the Brigham Genomic Medicine program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as project manager for the development team at Genzyme Genetics, as center and research coordinator and clinical counselor for Massachusetts General Hospital’s Neurofibromatosis & Allied Disorders group, and as a prenatal clinical genetic counselor.
O’Leary has an M.S. degree in genetic counseling from Brandeis University and a B.A. in biology with a concentration in biopsychology from College of the Holy Cross. She is an American Board of Genetic Counseling-certified genetic counselor licensed to practice in Massachusetts.
