Sheila Dodge

Sheila Dodge is the chief operating officer (COO) of Ó³»­´«Ã½ Clinical Labs, senior director of strategic financial operations for platforms, and an institute scientist at the Ó³»­´«Ã½ of MIT and Harvard. She helps define the organizational and scientific vision and leads operations of the Genomics Platform, which aims to transform the genomics and healthcare landscape by provisioning a suite of capabilities for generating, processing, and analyzing genomic data at scale. As COO, Dodge manages at the intersection between the lab and software organizations, with a focus on finance, quality, and business processes. Her effort includes clarifying intent of the activities and prioritization of the group’s goals, as well as management of the funding landscape and business strategy. The Ó³»­´«Ã½ Clinical Labs team (more than 250 members) currently manages more than 300,000 biological samples per year and offers more than 100 products ranging from research to translational to diagnostic outputs, all while exploring new technologies and improved methods for data analysis and sequencing.

She also has an institutional role in strategic finances for the platforms. She oversees budgeting, financial planning, and strategic analysis with a goal of financial sustainability and ensuring operational excellence of Ó³»­´«Ã½ platforms. She works at the intersection of platform science and administration, clarifying business models, working to reduce friction for platform customers, and creatively planning with financials to address the Ó³»­´«Ã½â€™s scientific needs.

With expertise in work design and implementation and an ability to balance creativity and efficiency, Dodge has expertise in process design, technology and assay development, and maintenance of high quality production lines. She has Black Belt certification in Six Sigma methodology and employs lean manufacturing design techniques across a wide variety of processes. Prior to her current role at the Ó³»­´«Ã½, Dodge served as a technician in the molecular biology production group at the Whitehead Institute and participated in the Human Genome Project. She also lectures at MIT Sloan School of Management on operations, dynamic work design, and visual management techniques.

Dodge received her B.A. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Boston University and her master’s degree in biology from Harvard University. She earned her M.B.A. from MIT Sloan School of Management.
