Recommendations to the FDA on blood donor deferral policy

The ӳ����ý’s annual bone marrow and blood drives prompted a member of our community to note that members of the LGBT community — specifically men who have sex with men — continue to be effectively barred from participating, even after the FDA relaxed donation restrictions put in place in the 1980s. In response, we formed a Blood Donation Working Group -- engaging 49 physicians, scientists and other staff members -- to consider such questions and offer additional comments to the FDA.

Congressional testimony: Science of Zika

May, 2016

Daniel Neafsey, associate director of the ӳ����ý’s Genomic Center for Infectious Diseases, was invited to testify before the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology for a hearing called “Science of Zika: The DNA of an Epidemic.”

Recommendations to HHS on Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects (“Common Rule”)

January, 2016

In 2015 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and other federal agencies proposed revisions to the regulations for protection of human subjects in research, and asked for comments from the scientific community. Members of the ӳ����ý’s genomics strategy group offered suggestions to better protect human subjects while facilitating research.

STEM teacher corps white paper

April, 2013

Members of the ӳ����ý community teamed up with Math for America, Google, and more than three dozen other organizations to draft a white paper to inform a national effort to strengthen the quality of K-12 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education.
