Research Highlights:
Malaria

Malaria is a global health threat, infecting hundreds of millions of people each year, and killing more than half a million of them, many of them children. The disease is caused by intracellular parasites of the genus Plasmodium that are transmitted to humans by mosquitos. The Ó³»´«Ã½ Infectious Disease and Microbiome Program, working closely with colleagues around the globe, in particular the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, seek to fill in the significant gaps in our understanding of malaria biology and to tackle critical roadblocks on the path to disease control. Approaches include using a variety of genomic, chemogenomic and proteomic approaches to identify novel drug and vaccine candidates and understanding the nature and impact of genetic diversity in malaria parasites and their vectors.
