Ó³»´«Ã½E
Ó³»´«Ã½E workshops bring researchers in the extended Ó³»´«Ã½ community together so they can learn from one another. Ó³»´«Ã½E workshops (the 'E' stands for education) offer insights and share hands-on training in breakthrough technologies, high-throughput methods, and computational tools not typically found in conventional research labs. Through this ongoing series, which is open to Ó³»´«Ã½ staff and to researchers at MIT, Harvard, and Harvard-affiliated hospitals, the Ó³»´«Ã½ community hopes to extend the impact of its science and openly share new methods.
The Genome Analysis Toolkit or GATK is a widely used software package developed at the Ó³»´«Ã½ to perform variant discovery analysis on high-throughput sequencing data. Educational materials provided by the GATK team include technical workshops that cover the full GATK Best Practices pipeline, detailing experimental design strategies, method algorithms, and interpretation of results. Upcoming workshops are announced on the GATK blog and on Twitter ().
MIA Primers and Seminars
Models, Inference & Algorithms is a weekly meeting on mathematics, statistics, machine learning, and computer science as it applies to biomedical research. Most weeks consist of a seminar on cutting-edge computational research, preceded by a pedagogical primer to review the underlying mathematical concepts. Conversely, some meetings are led by biologists eager to educate computational experts on the most important scientific questions in their field and the nature of the data in which the answers may be hiding. The resulting free and public educational resource has grown to over 60 hours of video, slide decks, and links to papers and code by some of the world's leading experts in machine learning and computational biology.
MPG Primers and Workshops
The Primer on Medical and Population Genetics is a series of informal weekly discussions of basic genetics topics that relate to human populations and disease. Videos of the events are made freely available to the public and provide in-depth introductions to the basic principles of complex trait genetics, including human genetic variation, genotyping, DNA sequencing methods, statistics, data analysis, and more.
