A primer on DNA foundation modeling

Principal ML Scientist (Group Leader)

ReLU,

Abstract:
This presentation explores the ongoing challenge of understanding how DNA sequence encodes gene regulation. It traces the development of sequence-to-function models, from early convolutional architectures to long-range models, and their applications in areas such as variant effect prediction and synthetic sequence design. The talk also broadly covers the emergence of DNA language models and their applications to variant effect predictions, and highlights the importance of connecting sequence-to-function modeling with DNA language modeling.
