Ó³»´«Ã½: Artist-in-Residence Program

Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s artist-in-residence program offers artists the opportunity to engage with Ó³»´«Ã½ scientists and staff to develop a new collaborative project. Artists will have access to all of our buildings, events, and communal workspaces, and a Ó³»´«Ã½ email address and phone number. Artists receive a one-time payment of $20,000, and a reimbursement for project materials up to $10,000. Start-date and duration of the program are determined with the selected artist and program staff according to the demands of an artist’s project. Typically, artists are in residence for at least one year. Artists may also show new, existing, or in-progress work as part of the Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s gallery program and/or host a public talk or other event.

Our program does not include studio space, housing, or travel costs, so artists within commuting distance from Cambridge, MA have traditionally benefited most from the program.

The Ó³»´«Ã½ seeks mid-career artists who are interested in Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s scientific work. We have historically worked with visual artists but are open to considering applications from artists in other disciplines as well.

Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s Artist-in-Residence program is an experiment. As the program evolves, we will refine the program details and application process to ensure we continue to serve the Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s mission effectively.
