A Diverse Career Panel in Genetic Research & Genomic Medicine | Project MENA PEDIGREE
馃挕 Did you know that individuals of Middle Eastern or North African (MENA) descent are under-represented in genetic research (Tawfik et al., 2023; Smith et al., 2016). For example, less than 0.04% of individuals represented in Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) are MENA (Gurdasani et al., 2019). Here at Project MENA PEDIGREE, we are trying to change that. PEDIGREE stands for Progressing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Genetic Research, Education, and Empowerment.
馃К We have partnered with the 映画传媒 of MIT and Harvard in Cambridge, MA and the Center for Arab Narratives (CAN) in Dearborn, MI to organize a 3-part event series to increase MENA representation in genetic research and genomic medicine, both among participants and professionals in the workforce. Here is our virtual genetic career panel led by MENA American experts, which was hosted on April 24, 2024.
鉃★笍 We have more events planned for August, September, and October 2024. To sign up for our upcoming virtual and in-person events, please visit:
