Richard has been captivated by science throughout his life, but prior to the Summer Scholars Program he had no research experience outside of the classroom. He was motivated to seek out an authentic science experience through an internship at the Ó³»´«Ã½. His computationally intensive project involved locating sites of allele-specific gene expression to provide insight into how the immune system functions and the mechanisms behind variable gene expression.
Richard found his research absolutely fascinating and felt it provided a better perspective of how biology really works. "I came to the Ó³»´«Ã½ with little previous knowledge in biology. I leave the Ó³»´«Ã½ with a newfound passion for the field of genomics and a glimpse of the wonders that the world of biological systems has to offer," said Richard.
