Dimidschstein Lab

The Dimidschstein Laboratory specializes in studying the contribution of specific neuronal populations to regular brain function and how alteration of their function can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorders.

Combining human genetic data with large-scale transcriptomic and epigenetic analysis allow to explore the developmental origins of neurodevelopmental disorders as they relate to GABAergic and cholinergic populations. Complementing this approach, the laboratory develops viral tools to target and manipulate defined neuronal populations and directly test whether perturbations within these cell types result in endophenotypes related to neuropsychiatric disorders.

Understanding and tools gained from these efforts could lead to the establishment of earlier diagnostics, the identification of biomarkers, as well as the development of targeted therapeutical approaches.
