Affiliate Faculty and Associate Members
The Ó³»´«Ã½â€™s faculty consists of core members and associate members, who both play a crucial role in the Institute’s scientific programs and activities. Associate members hold primary appointments in a "home department" at one of our partner institutions – MIT, Harvard University and the Harvard-affiliated hospitals – but are also deeply involved in the scientific life and work of the Ó³»´«Ã½.
Serving as an associate member involves both opportunities and responsibilities:
- All Ó³»´«Ã½ faculty continue to have full teaching and administrative duties at their home institutions. Associate members maintain their primary lab at their home institution, although they may have additional space at the Ó³»´«Ã½ where appropriate to support collaborative research.
- Associate members are appointed for two-year renewable terms.
- Associate members are invited and expected to be seriously engaged in the scientific life of the Ó³»´«Ã½ community in at least one of a number of ways, such as (i) regularly attending scientific program meetings; (ii) actively participating in scientific planning of programs and projects; and (iii) leading or co-leading scientific projects of interest.
- Associate members have the opportunity to join together to develop and propose collaborative projects, which may work with Ó³»´«Ã½ platforms and may receive internal Ó³»´«Ã½ funding through competitive review processes, such as .
- Associate members have PI status at the Ó³»´«Ã½ as well as at their home institution. They may apply for grants and awards through either institution as appropriate for the project.
In short, associate members are committed to building a collaborative community – each contributing to and benefiting from the Ó³»´«Ã½.
